Being the only place that I actually write down my New Years resolutions I'm going to make the post again this year, and whether people post on it or not since this forum has very low traffic, whatever. Here is the thread for 2015: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=21231" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

Last year I said:
Fergus wrote:
This year I want to:
  • work out/do yoga
  • have better oral hygiene
  • spend less money
  • teach myself Spanish
  • find free time (since I'll be working 60+ hours a week)
  • be nicer/trust my girlfriend more

- I did start working out, and tried to add yoga in but it was just too much at once. I go to the gym every day basically, except when I feel like or am a piece of shit (mainly hungover or tired). However I lost about 10 pounds so that's cool.
- I did go to the dentist at the end of last year but didn't do much else. I went back to the dentist this month again, and am planning to get the rest of my fillings. I have a goals sheet and one of them is to brush my teeth at least once a day.
- Spend less money didn't really work, since I blew like $300 at a strip club once this year, not to mention just going out a lot, drinking a lot, etc. I keep a budget and spending log now so that I can keep up on it. I have a lot of bills to pay and it basically is like 85% of my income so I don't have a lot of wiggle room. I opened a savings account though.
- Teaching myself Spanish was on and off. I was kind of dating a girl that was fluent and she taught me a little and I've been in and out of using duolingo. I still want to do better at Spanish. My roommate proposed an interesting life change for me, which would be becoming very proficient in Spanish and working at a hostel in South America.
- Find free time? I guess it was fine. I have plenty now, but no friends since my friends graduated and moved.
- The girlfriend thing, well we broke up. We talked last night actually about getting back together but we were both drunk and I semi-regret it now. However I was a fucking piece of shit to the girl mentioned above so I guess that didn't really work.

This years goals include:
  • Continue lifting, running and biking
  • Get down to 155lbs and maintain it (163-168 range currently)
  • Run a half marathon
  • Find a group to bike across the country with in 2017
  • Actually quit smoking for good
  • Stop drinking (6 months sober short term goal)
  • Play pool at least once a week to get better
  • Reconnect with at least 2 friends every month (deleted Facebook)
  • Write more letters
  • Go to Chicago (by train) in May and go to see the Cubs and White Sox play
  • Make trips to Philadelpia and New York to see the Phillies, Mets, and Yankees play
  • Continue to budget every month and put $50 in to savings every paycheck
  • Read a little more (more than 0 books)
  • Get pirate black Yeezy Boosts 350

Italicized things are easy things you put on the list to knock things out quick because they've already been put in to motion.

What're yours?

Thanks for making the post, Fergus. I'm glad you've been able to have some success with your goals. I didn't know you're into biking, that's pretty cool. I got interested in bikes this year and restored an early 80s Raleigh Competition GS with pretty Campy parts. :3:

I think my confidence went up, but I can't say the same about relaxation or drinking. Though 2015 was a great year for making a couple new friendships -- some of them are already closer than most others. I also got a full time job lined up after college in a relevant position that's very close to home. I think 2015 had the most depressing and seemingly hopeless days, but it was also the year I think I grew the most as a person.

For 2016, I'd like to improve my mental health by setting several small goals and trying to stay busy much of the time.

That's cool. I want to get more in to self maintenance when it comes to my bike. I bought an '03 Specialized Sequoia over the summer and use it to bike to and from work and town. I used to do tours and stuff a lot and since this year I started really getting in to fitness and health I think biking across the country is a solid goal to have for 2017 or 2018. I'm working on being able to run a half marathon and lifting heavy things before I start really committing to the biking. Now that I'm quitting smoking I shouldn't be as limited either.

Thank you for sharing your resolutions and making a post like this where we can do the same. :) I didn't have any written resolutions last year and I usually don't make a list but I can definitely think of some things I want to accomplish this year (some of them will happen without *too* much effort if I can help it, but still...):

- Graduate college with a master's degree
- Get accepted into a PhD school
- Improve my skin care / oral care routine
- Eat vegan meals when possible
- Continue to attend fitness classes
- Smile more, overthink less

Slightly late but my news years resolution is...

Firstly to spend less time on games (yes i know sad) the reason for this is I believe every time I am playing a game I could be doing something, something meaningful and there are many examples whether it be something simple as taking my dog for a walk or being productive with business, creating something that is going to life changing is my goal :)

Fergus, you share some of the health and fitness goals as I do!

Here are mines:
    -Continue to Lift & Run
-Get down to around 135-145lbs... I'm 5'4, very short. (Last year, I made a goal to live a more healthy, active life and lost 110lbs, but gained a little back)
-Run 1k Miles in 2016 (started running June 2015 and loved it. Ran over 500-600 miles last year, didn't track the first 2 months when I started)
-Run my first Half-Marathon (Shamrock'n Half in March if I can recover from my leg injury which halted my training. Will be running more 5Ks, 10Ks, 10-Miles, and Half-Marathons this year.)
-Run my first Marathon (The California International Marathon in December)

Just 33 more days to go and year 2016 will come to an end 8) and nice resolution you got there fergus!

But here is mine for the year 2017:
- To learn more about a lot of things from my current work
- Hopefully to fix every failure I did from this year
- Eat more and more vegetables....probably? LOL
- To get a better internet connection!
- Buy a car

And most importantly, to exercise more.

Completing a marathon will change your life, but it is a huge time commitment with the training.

I completed my last goal for 2016 by running the California International Marathon two weeks ago... it is just my first of many marathons I'll be running. I already registered for two of them next year.

Fergus, did you ever run your half-marathon?

Dude, that's really cool to hear. That's awesome that running changed your life. I've been running for the last 10ish years and couldn't imagine life without it. Nothing better than a nice long run where you're feeling good!

This is actually my first time on the forums in several years but I thought of Clan Peaceful as I'm on RS for the first time since 2009 tonight. Really cool to see your post from earlier today!
